I am interested in Carlos' books but I don't know where to start. Which book aptly encompasses everything that he experienced?

Re: What is the best book for an intro?
Wed, August 9, 2006 - 8:38 PMJourney to Ixtlan.
In my experience Don Juans teachings are more clear in this one than the others.
have fun -

Re: What is the best book for an intro?
Thu, May 3, 2007 - 6:52 AMI agree start with the 3rd one on, for the first two deal 'only' with ordinary sorcery,
whereas all the others are profoundly psychological and spiritual.
Cheers,
Lovingly,
Mark.

Re: What is the best book for an intro?
Wed, August 9, 2006 - 8:40 PMwell thats hard because all the books have a little something new to learn. my first book was journey to ixtlan. thats my favorite one also. but i suggest you read all. the book he wrote first was teachings of don juan.
theres one book with qoutes from don juan from all the books and is good in that respect. i think its called wheel of time.

Re: What is the best book for an intro?
Wed, August 9, 2006 - 9:45 PMstart with teachings of don juan if you've never done psychedelics and/or feel like the books are probably right up your alley and you'll stick with them, start with journey to ixtlan if you've done psychedelics and/or think these might not be your bag.

Re: What is the best book for an intro?
Tue, August 15, 2006 - 8:55 PMi would definitely agree that 'journey to ixtlan' is the best clear starter.
it is what juan was showing carlos from the start....as carlos was too dumb to get it, he got waaaaasted.....lol
also keep an eye out for what books cross your path...they all have value...even when u have read them repeatedly.
carlos was an impeccable amanuensis for the world teacher that is/was/will be juan.
to encompass everything carlos experienced that he wrote about...read them all including all the later ones.
florinda, taisha ,merilyn and even ken's boooks are worthwhile.
also(forgetting carlos and juan) try miguel ruiz and theun mares.
the toltecs are alive and well... -

Re: What is the best book for an intro?
Sat, August 19, 2006 - 2:29 AMHi. I'm new here and felt it ok to put in my 2 cents.
I agree with the others, Journey to Ixtlan. But, if you want to get into the whole thing and really feel a part of it, to go through what Carlos had to endure to realize and finally see, I suggest starting with The Teachings of Don Juan. It makes Journey to Ixtlan that much better.
Either way, the books are amazing. I'm sure you'll enjoy them no matter which one you read first.

Re: What is the best book for an intro?
Mon, March 19, 2007 - 9:35 PMGreetings,
Start with any of C.C's books I say, 'The Art of Dreaming' and 'Fire from within' are both great books. If you want an in depth definative guide to his collected works I would sujest you read Ken Eagle Feathers 'On the Toltec Path'. As far as I am aware, it is the only book written with the sole intent of putting all C.C's works into a coherent pragmatic order, and was done so following the instruction of Don Juan in light of Toltec prophecy stateing a time would come for the Toltec way to be introduced to the world at large..'Now'. I would not go past this book, a it is jam packed with quotes from C.C and Don Juan that include a page refference to the C.C book from which it came..
Good luck ;o) -

or following the instruction of making money from carlos's legacy more like... -

Re: What is the best book for an intro?
Thu, May 17, 2007 - 5:17 AMI urge the reader not to approach cc from the point of view of synopsis...valuable experience and in mental imagination will be lost...
ie. some parts will come thru lucid and clear, some parts will make no sense on first read...but may stick...upon re-read new experience sheds new light on the matter... -

Re: What is the best book for an intro?
Thu, May 17, 2007 - 10:49 PMexcellent points theo. i would add that out of chronology is pretty ill-advised as well, especially starting with fire from within or power of silence... -

Re: What is the best book for an intro?
Tue, May 22, 2007 - 4:35 PMAll things pointed to my friend starting with Journey to Ixtlan and he is enjoying it alot. I spoke with another friend who said that getting through the first two books was difficult for him and while we didn't get to finish the conversation I got the air that he may have preferred it differently...
I think that the books come into people's lives the way they need to...if you are into it then I do suggest starting from the beginning but it does seem that his writings really started to come together with Journey to Ixtlan.

Re: What is the best book for an intro?
Fri, May 2, 2008 - 8:34 AMThe very last is th best to start with, then Ixtlan, then Eagle, then the rest. Go to news:alt.dreams.castaneda and ask the 11 crows, the tribe that dreams together... -

Re: What is the best book for an intro?
Fri, May 2, 2008 - 3:09 PMno first you burn ixtlan then eat the ashes and read all the rest of the books in the astral library near castro st where you hump a demon crow and become don juans apprentice.
